A Steepest Descent Method for Oscillatory Riemann-hilbert Problems

but it will be clear immediately to the reader with some experience in the field, that the method extends naturally and easily to the general class of wave equations solvable by the inverse scattering method, such as the KdV, nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS), and Boussinesq equations, etc., and also to "integrable" ordinary differential equations such as the Painlevé transcendents. As described, for...

Nonlinear Riemann-hilbert Problem for Bordered Riemann Surfaces

Let Σ be a bordered Riemann surface with genus g and m boundary components. Let {γz}z∈∂Σ be a smooth family of smooth Jordan curves in C which all contain the point 0 in their interior. Then there exists a holomorphic function f(z) on Σ smooth up to the boundary with at most 2g +m− 1 zeros on Σ such that f(z) ∈ γz for every z ∈ ∂Σ.

Riemann-Hilbert problems for last passage percolation

Last three years have seen new developments in the theory of last passage percolation, which has variety applications to random permutations, random growth and random vicious walks. It turns out that a few class of models have determinant formulas for the probability distribution, which can be analyzed asymptotically. One of the tools for the asymptotic analysis has been the Riemann-Hilbert met...

A general framework for solving Riemann-Hilbert problems numerically

A new, numerical framework for the approximation of solutions to matrix-valued Riemann–Hilbert problems is developed, based on a recent method for the homogeneous Painlevé II Riemann–Hilbert problem. We demonstrate its effectiveness by computing solutions to other Painlevé transcendents. An implementation in Mathematica is made available online.

Noncommutative Monopoles and Riemann-Hilbert Problems

The Bogomolny equations for Yang-Mills-Higgs monopoles follow from a system of linear equations which may be solved through a parametric Riemann-Hilbert problem. We extend this approach to noncommutative R and use it to (re)construct noncommutative Dirac, Wu-Yang, and BPS monopole configurations in a unified manner. In all cases we write down the underlying matrix-valued functions for multi-mon...
